My name is Pat Skailes, and I began training in '79 at the age of 19.

My first show was the '79 novice Mr. BC and I got my ass kicked. My second show was the '80 junior Victoria which I won. I have competed in many local as well as regional shows throughout the '80s winning a few as well as losing quite a few.

I took up power lifting in '87 winning the Nationals in the 275 lb class as well as setting the squat record (the record was very short lived). In '89 I won the provincial power lifting championships once again setting a new squat record as a 242.

I then took a break from competitions as there were family issues that required my full attention at the time. I resumed competing in '97 in the Vancouver Island strongman in which I took second behind my trainee. I continued to compete in strongman shows and events winning some/losing some.

In 2000 my wife Dolly and I took up bodybuilding competition (first time for Dolly) in the WNSO West Coast Championships. Dolly placed 4th in this her first show, and I managed to achieve pro status in that federation. We then went on to compete in the WNSO world Championships Dolly as a lightweight in which she achieved 3rd, and me as a pro in which I took second.

We then switched back to IFBB sanctioned events by competing in the BCABBA/CBBF tested Western Canadians. Dolly again took 3rd (lightweight), and I won. It should be noted that the winner of the lightweight women's class was later suspended for banned substances etc. In '03 while I was training for the Nationals I ruptured my Achilles heel which sidelined me, but Dolly continued on and took second at the BCs.

In '04 I managed to not only bring up my injured calf, but won the National masters class which afforded me IFBB pro status. Currently I'm training for the Masters Olympia in 2006.

I first met Jim McMahon through a mutual friend (Ryan Rangno, PVL Sales Rep Vancouver Island) while Jim was just starting out with PVL. During this time he and I struck up a friendship, and I began using PVL products. This was during the early/mid 90s. In '97 Jim gave me a partial sponsorship while I was training for a natural show.

In 2000 Jim called me and asked if I would be interested in a full sponsorship I of course jumped at the chance, and have remained with PVL ever since. As the products produced by PVL are of the highest quality I am and always will be loyal to PVL, and I am truly grateful for the support that Jim and PVL have shown me over the years. I know that I would not be where I'm at now without PVL's help and assistance over the years.
